Lake Erie began as a passion project, drawing inspiration from 80’s horror films, and movies like Goonies and E.T.

The short film is a proof of concept produced by WildBrain Studios as part of a long form series development. A serialized episodic tv show pitch as well as a feature film pitch are available. Now searching for producers and production partners to help bring this story to the big screen. With WildBrain, a major Canadian animation studio behind it, this is a project with lots of potential for producers and investors. Logline: When a socially anxious teen is dragged into a terrifying underworld by the vengeful ghost of an old sea captain, he struggles to reunite with his father before he is trapped forever.

About the Creator

Writer and director of the short film Lake Erie, a 2D-animated ghost story produced by WildBrain Studios, John Vassallo has been a passionate creator and leader in the animation industry for almost two decades. His work has appeared in over a dozen live action and animated feature films, including: Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Big Hero 6, Vivo, Angry Birds 2, Hotel Transylvania (1 & 2), Storks, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, Legend of the Guardians and many others. Originally from Detroit MI, John studied animation locally at the College for Creative Studies and VFX at Gnomon School of Visual Effects in Los Angeles. Now based in Vancouver, he is Creative Director of Animation at WildBrain Studios, one of the foremost producers of kids’ and family content.
